As Qui-Gon put it “Your focus determines your reality” and we believe, that is certainly true for this short.

SPECIAL FX

We are honoured to welcome practical FX miniatures specialist and filmmaker Sven Armbrust of the Unproductive Brothers to the team.

Sven builds miniature set dioramas, creating intricately and lovingly crafted models with impeccable detail. Drawing inspiration from cult classic cinema such as Indiana Jones and Star Wars of course, and beloved video games like Super Mario, as well as his own creations.

Sharing the innovative process of his work along with the final results has gained him a substantial following on social media.

We are massive fans of practical FX miniatures, as we were lucky enough to grow up with blockbusters using them as a go to. Terminator 1 & 2, Alien & Aliens, Starship Troopers, and of course Star Wars. Just a few of our favourites! With the rise of VFX, the use of miniatures in film has become less and less. We wanted to include them, not only as a nostalgic nod to this technique but because they do look damn good.

In case you haven’t pieced it together, the shoot in May has been called the ‘Sun Unit’ for shining reasons. We have now finished filming for Apprentice and have moved into post production.

Here are some unit stills from the Sun Unit Shoot. We hope you enjoy the awesome character of Young Apprentice played by the gifted Jaeden Paige.

We would also like to welcome our talented score composer Seniz Suleyman. Seniz has a BA (HONS) degree in music production and has previously been commissioned to compose sounds of Redbull under BMG Production Music. She has had TV & Media experience with Film4, BBC, Disney Channel and Sky Cinema to name a few. Seniz also writes and produces her own songs, using her vast skill sets to blend inspiration from many sources and genres.

SOUND FX

We would like to introduce our sound FX designer Aaron Graham, an experienced and creative drummer, musician and composer, who works professionally as a sound designer for major brands for commercials and ads. Aaron also writes and produces his own music, as well as previously drumming for bands such as Banfi. He also works as a session drummer.

VFX

One of our main updates is that we are proud to introduce a new crew member, who is an up and coming VFX artist, Adem Suleyman. He is currently working on all the scenes requiring VFX to ensure they will look out of this world!

NEXT UP FOR APPRENTICE

We have cast a talented young actress for the next shoot - Jaeden Paige.

We are excited to be working with her very soon! This is for some additional scenes which will add more storyline to the apprentice’s journey. We can’t say any more just yet, but we will be keeping you posted on here first.

First Shoot Complete

Our first shoot was completed on the last weekend of November 2023, in arguably the first night of extreme cold weather that hit us this winter. It was all worth it though, as we captured our fight sequence. We had an incredible lighting team of experienced industry professionals working to ensure the lighting in the forest at night was of cinematic quality, providing just the right type of moonlit ambience we were looking for. Special thanks to Lee Mills at Skylite who provided the LED balloon light to be our key light to mimic the light of the moon. Also to Paul Dooley, Monique McNulty and the team at MBS lighting at Pinewood Studios, who kindly provided us with a 12-tonne truck of top-end lighting kit and first rate assistance.

Costume, Hair & Makeup

Moving on to the costume and make up design; bespoke costumes were designed and handmade for all characters, by the talented Anita Gander. Anita’s skill and attention to costume detail enhanced the feel of the film, and especially told the story of the Apprentice’s character journey. Hair and makeup design was created by Kelly McDonagh who drew her inspiration from the Star Wars universe, as well as adding her very special flare to the looks.

Fight Choreography

Our fight sequence was choreographed by two up and coming stunt and fight coordinators Joshua Elms and Callum Chiplin, who both provided stellar coaching to the actors in fight rehearsals as well as on the shoot. Their knowledge of the specialist Star Wars style of fighting was incredibly effective.

NEXT UP FOR APPRENTICE

We will be shooting again in a month, adding a new scene as we believe this will enhance our story, and make it an even more of an enjoyable watch. We can’t wait to share more news with you!
